This unique and intensive program is intended for singers to enhance their professional experience and study and collaborate with the finest musicians. With world renown and celebrated teacher Randall Scarlata, you will learn aspects of vocal technique, style and interpretation via performance, analysis, instruction in German diction and constructive critique. We will explore German lieder, poetry and vocal chamber music in depth, which will include collaboration with string players and piano. You will work on roughly 6 lieder and one chamber piece throughout the 11 day festival, exploring repertoire ranging from Mozart to Mahler. Guidelines to repertoire choices will be provided. In addition to the master classes, every singer will preform a set of songs and a chamber piece in the final concert.

In addition to German lieder, we would like to explore some Russian repertoire with you, of which you can bring any two Russian songs of your choice to study at the festival. Some composers to consider are Rachmaninov, Medtner, Mussorgsky, Shostakovich, and Prokofiev. However, the choice is yours. Upon acceptance to the festival, we ask that you contact either Randall Scarlata or Elena Levina with the songs you have chosen.

There will also be musicology workshops and lectures in music history and theory. The environment at AlpenKammerMusic blends artistic intensity with a relaxed atmosphere in order to study.

Comments Of Past Participants:

"It was the highlight of my year! I felt like I learned more the week at AKM about playing chamber music than I have in a long time."
- Felicia Weiss, Washington D.C.

"I can't say enough good things about the coaches that worked with my groups. My expectations were that they would help with ensemble and that I would really enjoy actually playing with them. These expectations were exceeded far beyond what I could have imagined."
- Norma Dermond, Seattle WA
