AlpenKammerMusik is a highly unique and intimate experience for the committed musician, 11 days of intense rehearsals and study time alongside other musicians and faculty from around the world. In addition to daily morning and afternoon rehearsals, the festival presents a series of master classes and lectures intended to help participants gain a deeper understanding of the works they and their colleagues perform throughout the festival. The festival culminates in a series of concerts with faculty and participants performing together in Liesing's Kultursaal on the last two evenings of the festival.

Each participant will be in 2 or 3 groups that meet every day for at least 1 hour and 15 minutes each. At least one of the groups will include a professional playing in the group and will often have a visiting coach as well for more personalized instrumental help. Groups that do not have a playing faculty will have an assigned coach as well as visiting coachings from a faculty that plays another instrument.

AlpenKammerMusik offers a German Lieder program led by renowned baritone Randall Scarlata. This will run in parallel to the instrumental program, but will include voluntary collaboration between instrumentalists and vocalists in the form of chamber works performed in concert at the end of the festival.

We accept the following musicians:

  • 7 violins
  • 3 violas
  • 4 cellos
  • 1 double bass
  • 5 pianists
  • 5 winds (flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, horn)
  • 5 vocalists

* this list is subject to change

Comments Of Past Participants:

"It was the highlight of my year! I felt like I learned more the week at AKM about playing chamber music than I have in a long time."
- Felicia Weiss, Washington D.C.

"I can't say enough good things about the coaches that worked with my groups. My expectations were that they would help with ensemble and that I would really enjoy actually playing with them. These expectations were exceeded far beyond what I could have imagined."
- Norma Dermond, Seattle WA
