Frequently Asked Questions

Below is a list of commonly asked questions of people who express interest in wanting to apply and attend AlpenKammerMusik. How much does AlpenKammerMusik cost?

The tuition is 1,100 euros for the 12 day festival. This fee covers general tuition (faculty, coaching, administration ...etc.), the use of the Volksmusik Akademie, the Kultursaal, all additional rehearsal facilities and bus travel during the festival (not including airport transportation). Please note that tuition is in EUROS and not in dollars. Conversion rates for the American dollar will vary. For auditors, those who attend but do not play or perform at the festival, the fee is €700.

When do I need to be in Liesing?

You will need to arrive in Liesing sometime during the day on Tuesday, July 12th and leave Sunday, July 24th. The festival will arrange round-trip transportation to and from Liesing and Munich International Airport (Franz Josef Strauss). The bus will depart Munich airport between 3pm and 4pm on Tuesday, July 12, arriving into Liesing at roughly 8pm. For the return trip back, plan on having your flight leave Munich no earlier than 1pm on the 24th, as the bus trip to Munich is at least 4 hours long and will not leave before 7am that day. The cost of the bus trip between Munich and Liesing is 130 euros (65 euros per direction).


How can I apply?

Applications for AlpenKammerMusik are due by April 15. The application process for AlpenKammerMusik is simple and easy. Either you can choose to fill out an online application here on the AlpenKammerMusik website or you can download the application to your computer, fill out the application by hand and mail it to the address found in the application. There is an application fee of $50 which helps cover administrative and preparation work prior to your arrival in Liesing for the festival. Once you have been accepted to AlpenKammerMusik, we will provide you with the transfer information for the festival's bank and sponsor Raiffeisenbank Kötschach-Mauthen. If you submit your application prior to January 31, 2012, your application fee will be waived.


What is Camerata Pangaea?

Camerata Pangaea is the name of the festival's resident ensemble that makes up AlpenKammerMusik's faculty. The term Pangaea comes from the supercontinent from Paleozoic and Mesozoic eras about 250 million years ago that contain the landmasses of all the continents of the world before they drifted apart to where they are situated today. The faculty chose the name Pangaea since the members of the ensemble come from all corners of the world to play music together in the beautiful surroundings of Liesing.

Where does the faculty come from?

AlpenKammerMusik's faculty members come from all over the world. The faculty hails from Asia, Europe, Israel, Japan, Russia and the United States. Combined with the festival amateur chamber music participants, AlpenKammerMusik makes for a small melting pot in the stunning surroundings of the Austrian Alps.

Where is Liesing?

Liesing is in the south of Austria in the state of Carinthia (Kärnten) and is situated in the beautiful Lesachtal valley near the Italian border. The country of Austria has 2 towns named Liesing, and please be sure not to be confused with the Liesing near Vienna in the north of the country. Liesing is a small town with a population of roughly 400 people. The Lesachtal valley has a population of only 1,200 people.

When is the application due date?

A completed application and application fee of $50 is due by April 15, 2012. If you have any problems meeting this due date, please contact us with any questions you have.

What is an auditor?

An auditor is one who attends AlpenKammerMusik but does not perform or rehearse throughout the week. An auditor are allowed to attend rehearsals, master classes, lectures, and any other event through the duration of the festival. Tuition for an auditor is €700 for the 12 day festival.

How do I audition?

Applicants need to provide AlpenKammerMusik with a recording of your playing along with your application. If you are unable to provide a recording to us, simply playing over the telephone is also acceptable. If you have previously attended AlpenKammerMusik, you do not need to provide a recording with your application.
