Claudia Ajmone-Marsan, violin
Born of Italian and Danish parentage, the versatile violinist Claudia Ajmone-Marsan is sought after by major orchestras, festivals, and halls throughout Europe and North America. Equally at home as soloist, chamber musician and orchestral leader, Claudia continually garners accolades from critics, fellow musicians, and the public.
A frequent performer in the world's major music festivals, Claudia has played in such prestigious locations as the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Aspen Music Festival and at "Keshet Eilon" in Israel, the International Musician's Seminar in Prussia Cove run by Steven Isserlis, Perth Festival in Australia, Wellington Festival in New Zealand, the Flanders Festival in Belgium and the Santander Festival in Spain.
As a soloist, Claudia has appeared to popular and critical acclaim with the Copenhagen Chamber Soloists, Oberlin Conservatory Chamber Orchestra, and the Kammerphilharmonie Amadé. With the Cologne Chamber Orchestra she performed on tour throughout Europe, in concert halls like the Kölner Philharmonie, the Prinzregententheater in Munich, as well as the Théatre des Champs Elysées in Paris.
Always active as a chamber musician, Claudia was a member of the award-winning Quince Quartet, which played in festivals throughout England and Ireland. Claudia has collaborated among others with Antje Weithaas, Eduard Brunner, Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi, Christoph Richter, Diemut Poppen, Vladimir Mendelssohn, and Lawrence Power. A regular on European classical music broadcast media, Claudia has appeared on state radio in Israel, Belgium and Sweden.
In demand with orchestras all over Europe, Claudia has served in leading positions with major ensembles. In her home city of Sheffield, England, she is a member of the Ensemble 360, a group devoted to chamber music performance and educational outreach. She has been concertmaster of Deutsche Kammerakademie Neuss am Rhein and the Berlin Chamber Soloists. She has also been assistant principal second violin of the London Philharmonia Orchestra, and is currently principal second of Kammerphilharmonie Amadé and the European Union Chamber Orchestra. Dedicated to contemporary music, Claudia performs regularly with Ensemble Modern-Frankfurt in the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, Chatelet in Paris and the Opera House in Frankfurt. Claudia also tours regularly with the Camerata Nordica-Sweden.
A graduate of the prestigious Yehudi Menuhin School in England, Claudia studied at the Manhattan School of Music with Sylvia Rosenberg and subsequently with Roland and Almita Vamos at the Oberlin Conservatory, Ohio, where she received her Bachelor of Music degree. In July of 2001 she completed her postgraduate studies with Mihaela Martin at the Hochschule für Musik Köln.
With her strong belief in the value of music education, Claudia is a passionate teacher and has led numerous workshops in Ireland and South Africa as part of the MIAGI festival. Currently living in Sheffield, England, she maintains an active private studio.
