One of the most sought- after young flutists of his generation, Guy Eshed has already performed as Principal Flautist with the the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Northern Israel Symphony Orchestra and the Kibutz Chamber Orchestra and various international orchestras under conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Valeri Gergiev and Sir Colin Davis. He is currently Principal Flautist of Daniel Barenboim's West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, and has played in the world's great concert halls such as Carnegie Hall in New York, and Royal Albert Hall in London as part of the BBC Proms. Collaborative efforts with artists such as Kolja Blacher, Trevor Pinnock, and Daniel Barenboim have met with critical acclaim, as have Guy's appearces as a soloist with orchestras and ensembles in Israel and Europe. He recently performed at the Jerusalem International Chamber Music Festival, performed in chamber music festivals and recorded for Israeli radio. Guy is a recipient of awards from the America-Israel Foundation and the Tצpfer Foundation. Since 2005, he has been based in Sheffield, England, where he holds a residency as a member of Ensemble 360°.
Guy Eshed was born in Tel-Aviv in 1979 and began studying the flute at the age of twelve. He graduated with honours from the Rubin Music Academy of Tel-Aviv University where he studied with Yossi Arnheim and Mordechai Rechtman, twice winning the concerto and the chamber music competitions. At twenty-one, having completed his three years service duty for the Israeli Army as Principal Flautist of the Air Force Orchestra, Guy was appointed Principal Flautist of the Northern Israel Symphony Orchestra and the Kibutz Chamber Orchestra. In 2002, Guy was a student of Prof. Jacques Zoon in the Hochschule for Music "Hanns-Eisler" in Berlin and became the Solo Flautist of the Tel-Aviv Soloists Ensemble, with whom he also appeared as a soloist in Israel and in a concert tour in Hungary. In 2005, Guy graduated with the highest grade from the Hochschule for Music and Theatre, Hamburg, where he studied with Prof. Moshe Aron Epstein. He is a scholarship winner of the America-Israel Foundation and the Töpfer Foundation, Hamburg. More recently, Guy has been invited to play as guest Solo Flautist with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, and performed in the International Chamber Music Festival in Jerusalem.
