Guy Eshed, flute

Israeli flautist Guy Eshed was the solo flautist of the the Berlin Staatskapelle under Daniel Barenboim between 2008-10 and was recently appointed solo flautist of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Stockholm under Daniel Harding. In addition, he is the solo flautist of the West Eastern Divan Orchestra since 2001. He held the same positions with the Manchester Camerata and Ensemble 360 (UK) between 2005-2008. In great demand as an orchestral musician, Guy has appeared as solo guest flautist with orchestras such as the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra - Munich, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino - Florance, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra among others.

As a soloist, Guy has appeared in Italy, Germany,the UK, Hungary and his native Israel with orchestras such as the Israel Chamber Orchestra, Manchester Camerata, the Israel Camerata Jersualem, the Berlin Chamber Soloists, Berlin Hof Musik, the Tel-Aviv Soloists and Kammerphilharmonie Amade, collaborating with Trevor Pinnock, Nicholas Kraemer, Frieder Obstfeld, Kolja Blacher as well as memorable solo performances with the West Eastern Divan Orchestra in the Salzburg Festival and the London Proms under Daniel Barenboim and Pierre Boulez.

Guy is a keen chamber musician and apart from his work with Ensemble 360, he is a regular participant of the The Jerusalem International Chamber Music Festival and has taken part in various chamber music festivals as the Beethovenfest Bonn and the Vaals Festival. He has performed in prestigious chamber music series such as the Wigmore Hall, Paris Cité de la Musique, Berlin Konzerthaus, Düsseldorf Tonhalle, Essen Philharomonie with partners including Daniel Barenboim, Kirill Gerstein, Elena Bashkirova, Frans Helmerson, Klaus Thunemann, Marie Luise Neunecker, Karl- Heinz Steffens,Gary Hoffman, Alex Klein, Guy Braunstein, Antje Weithaas, The Berlin Philharmonic Soloists and others.

He has recorded several times for the Israeli radio, German radio and the BBC as well as for the ASV and Nimbus cd lables. Guy was a regular scholarship winner of the America-Israel Foundation and won a special ex the Töpfer Foundation, Hamburg.

He graduated with honors from the Rubin Music Acadey of the Tel-Aviv University , the Hochschule for Music "Hanns-Eisler" Berlin and the Hochschule for Music and Theater Hamburg. Among his teachers were Prof. Jacques Zoon, Prof. Moshe Epstein, Yossi Arnheim and Mordechai Rechtman. At the age of 21, after completing his three years service duty for the Israeli Army as principal flautist of the Air Force Orchestra, Guy was appointed principal flautist of the Northern Israel Symphony Orchestra, Haifa, where he played between 2000-2002.
